Happy Valentine's Day! Look what the birds are up to.....

It's Valentine's Day today and spring is in the air too. The birds have been busy planning their new families. If you walk in our reserves now the most common bird song you will hear is that of the Coppersmith Barbet males calling their lungs out. You will hear the loud rather metallic chunk…chunk…chunk sound, reminiscent of a copper sheet being beaten, giving the bird its name.

Here's a video of the bird hard at work.
Not only are the barbets busy, the Olive-backed Sunbirds have also been busy constructing their nests and collecting soft downy materials to line their nests.
The Oriental Pied Hornbills have been observed in courtship and prospecting for nesting cavity.
