Rails by the river bank

Some months back I spotted a lone slaty-breasted rail skulking around. This was the first sign that rails were coming back to the area. Not long after the initial sighting, there were more sightings along the Kallang River plain.

These shy birds will disappear in a flash the moment they sense eyes on them. I've since learned the art of watching these rails without encroaching into their space. Happy to report that life must be good along the river as the pair raised three chicks.
