I took a walk around the neighborhood, something I had not done in months since I switched my route. To my surprise and delight I found a huge traveller's palm in bloom. This is the first time I've seen a traveller's palm in flower.
I had to take the camera along today to record this, I'll update this post again when it is in full bloom.
According to my research, the traveller's palm is a species of banana-like plant from Madagascar. It is not a true palm but a member of the bird-of-paradise family. It is called the travellers palm because the stems hold rainwater that can be used as an emergency drinking supply.
