Homemade Doughnuts

We went grocery shopping and we ended up picking up a packet of doughnut mix from the baking section. It was a spur of a moment thing as I was a little bored with work and needed a creative outlet. I remembered seeing in Wild, Wild East: Recipes and Stories from Vietnam, a photo of doughnuts on bamboo sticks.
I decided to make doughnut balls as the doughnut maker my aunt left at my place was spoilt. I get all kinds of things dropped off at my place for me to try by well meaning family members so my kitchen and pantry are always very well stocked.
This is my first attempt at doughnut making doughnut.I over browned the initial doughnuts as I had the fire up too high but when I got the temperature under control they were coming out golden brown.
These hot fluffy balls were then rolled in vanilla sugar. My helper couldn't resist them, she was popping doughnuts in her mouth as she rolled them in the sugar. To have some fun I decided to skewered the doughnuts like what I saw in the book. It was fun eating them off the sticks. The next time, I'm going to get creative and step it up a notch or two. I melt some chocolate for a fondue doughnut session.

It does. That's why I got such a kick out of this.
