Dempsey Hill Gourmet Jaunt

The Dempsey area was formerly known as the British army barracks and the old CMPB national service enlistment centre, where 18-year-old Singaporean males had to report for enlistment.
These days the charming conservation buildings still stand proudly. However, it is no longer only known for its antique, teak furniture shops and carpet dealers but home to a number of fine and casual dining.
A friend and I visited the Dempsey area mainly to explore and to soak in the atmosphere without my camera in toll. We started out at L'Organic (Blk 17 and 18), Singapore's first organic farmer's market and then up to Dempsey Hill.
On the hill are the following F&B outlets: - Ben & Jerry n Culina (Blk 8); Jones the grocer n La Forketta (Blk 9); Rain, Dome n Margarita's (Blk 11).
I ended up buying 100 gms of parma ham from Jones the grocer, Australia’s premium food store, as the leg of ham just arrived and it was delicious when I had a sampling. Jones the grocer also has a walk-in temperature controlled cheese room with artisan cheeses, an extensive deli and charcuterie offering, butchery, fine coffee as well as a full service cafĂ©.
This was my indulgence, parma ham and cheese being assembled on the board in my kitchen. Yum!!!
I also bought a bottle of Tetsuya's Black Truffle Salsa for Butter - $29 from Culina. The bottle's ingredients include black truffles and other ingredients that have been meticulously selected and supervised by Tetsuya to ensure that only the best is chosen. The salsa can be mixed with a little olive oil and tossed through hot pasta or for something completely decadent stir a teaspoon full through scrambled eggs. For truffle butter combine salsa with butter and finely grated parmesan cheese.
