Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

I hightailed it over to the wetland reserve this morning at 7.30 am and these are some of the photos that I took of the wild animals I manage to see before the crowds got to the reserve. This is a juvenile water monitor that I spotted near the visitors' center. Thing about nature is you've got to be quiet, listen and look for animals that hide in the undergrowth and in the canopy above. This is a little heron waiting to catch its breakfast.Woohoo!!! I finally spotted my elusive woodpecker. I have been waiting for months now to catch a glimpse of this bird. It is present at my home too but I've not been able to spot it for one reason or other. This is the common goldenbacked woodpecker that I spotted because it was making such a lot of ruckus up in the trees. The three musketeers - male red jungle-fowl foraging in the mangrove at low tide. They are the ancestor of the domestic chicken.Aramis playing I spy out of one eye, ain't he a handsome bird. Then I went home just before the skies opened up. I'm coming back as there still a lot of wildlife to spot and photograph.
Then the funny thing happened, common greenbacked woodpeckers just kept popping up right on the trees in front of my home. I photographed this one from my home office window. Later, we spotted four but they were too high up in the canopy to photograph.

Thanks! For every good shot there are probably equal number of shots that are bad.
