Saturday's outing also yielded some unexpected gems during the three hour walk. While waiting for the Common Kingfisher to come back, we spotted a pair of woodpeckers. They flew in and landed on the tree behind us and started hammering away at the wood.
The two were later identified as a pair as Laced Woodpeckers. This is also the first time I've seen them out in the open. Most of my encounters with the Laced have been in wooded areas within the reserve. We had a great time photographing this pair.
I started with the female as she was lower down the tree.Below is the slightly more colorful male.He has a red crown while the female has a black crown.

Another great series of photos.. congrats on your find!
Thanks! Looking forward to the weekend. It's been a gruelling week of nothing but work.
Well...considering that you have nature literally at your doorstep, I'm sure you'll have a great weekend photographing fascinating creatures!
Absolutely! I going to where the birdy paparazzi are camped these day.
