Avian Visitors

What is Sungei Buloh at the end of the year without the avian immigrants that fly in to winter. Most people will see the egrets as they stand out against the mudflats but the shore birds just melt into the mudflats. The Whimbrels fly in from North East Asia and interesting to watch as they have long downward curved beaks. These beaks allow them to probe deep into mud for food such crustaceans, aquatic invertebrates, insects, worms and mollusks.
The next immigrant is the Mongolian Plover, they come from as far as Siberia.Another Plover - the Pacific Golden Plover another long distance travelled that come in from Siberia
This one transits here and then flies on - the Marsh Sandpiper. There are more but they will have to wait till my next trip.
